Seventeen Magazine and Sandbox Head Back to School

Sandbox Marketing was tapped by Seventeen Magazine to produce the 2010 installment of their annual Seventeen U college tour spreading the word about Seventeen Magazine and its partners to college students across the country through product sampling and by generating brand awareness.

The 2010 Seventeen U tour stops included:

August 21, 2010 “Welcome Week Picnic” at Ball State University

August 23, 2010 “Cal-topia” at University of California, Berkeley

September 4, 2010 “First Week” at George Washington University

September 21, 2010 “Buck-I Frenzy” at Ohio State University

September 24, 2010″First Friday” at University of California, San Diego

Each stop was scheduled in conjunction with an existing on campus “back to School” style event. Most of which included other vendors, concerts and various student activities throughout the day. By aligning the Seventeen U tour with these existing events, Sandbox was able ensure maximum traffic at each event in order to generate the most awareness for Seventeen Magazine and its advertisers. At times, the traffic in the tent was so great that students were standing shoulder to shoulder under the tent lined up to grab some great samples from brands like Dove, Always, Biore, NYC Cosmetics, Container Store, Avon and Tweezerman among others.

Along with an onsite 20×20 display tent complete with a custom backdrop, and display a Thanksgiving banner along with table covers, the program also included radio advertisements on each campus’ student radio station, ads in the campus newspapers and a guerrilla poster campaign which canvassed each campus prior to each event. Based on the amount of traffic at each event, itss safe to say the advertising worked as samples were flying off the tables as fast we could open boxes.

Now that the 2009 program has come to a close, planning is currently underway for the 2010 program.
